Title: Spread the Sunshine- Random good news
Post by: Peregrine on September 11, 2014, 06:22:20 pm
So I decided I'd start a thread of random good news. I've had plenty of the not so good kind in the last 9 months, but I want to focus on the good things and try and let the bad stuff go. Sooo... without further ado, a few random good tidbits!

1. My oldest daughter discovered her FIRST WIGGLY TOOTH last night! It makes me wonder where the time has gone, but I'm excited to get to play tooth fairy, :money: which should be easy because she sleeps like a rock. ^_^

2. My husband- who is not as geeky as me- has agreed to let me make him Wesley/Dread Pirate Roberts :mask: for Halloween, so I can be Buttercup and people will know I'm not some chick in a red dress. (This one is super silly, but Halloween is seriously my All time FAVORITE holiday, even if there is only candy and not presents.... hum, there should be presents.)

3. We may have found a contractor to fix our bathroom mess!  :myrtel:

and last

4. It has been super rainy and cool here this past week and when I went out into my yard yesterday now that it has cleared up, a bunch of leaves on my trees and bushes had started to turn colors over night. I LOVE AUTUMN! Probably why I also love Halloween- I love the colors and the crisp and the crunch of leaves under my feet.
:yellowcat: :rainbowsheep:

So there you go. Please share your good news too so we can all enjoy a little bit of sunshine. ^_^

P.S. Any chance we can get some pumpkins or other Autumn/Halloween themed smileys Oh Benevolent Powers that Be?

Focusing on the good would be a positive venture, yes. Thank you, Pere!

And congrats on getting your husband to agree to dress up! Halloween is great.

1. Four of my friends are getting married (and by this I do mean 2 and 2). I received a call from one at 1am and heard the engagement story from his overly-excited lips, which was so great. The other I just found out about today ^-^

2. My dad has successfully sold the house (double-edged sword, that. Oh the stress of moving again!) for the price he wanted.

3. My cat is still alive and well, and all but chugging water--which is what I want her to be doing. So, good things ^-^

I love the idea of a good news thread and am so happy to hear about yours!

I am happy to report that I am one of Krystal's friends that got engaged this week, as is Verse- and to each other no less!

I'm visiting family this month but when I get back I will see into this autumn/pumpkin emoticon business. Until then, please accept these orange bell peppers.

Ahh, these are such wonderful tidings!

Krystal, does this mean you are moving? or just helping with the move? Hopefully it is smooth either way.

Ara (and Verse) Congratulations! We only had 2 weeks to put the wedding together to the aforementioned Dread Pirate, so we could have a honeymoon before he deployed. We didn't get everything we both dreamed/thought/talked about, but we got each other, and 9 1/4 years later, we're still happy =]

So the only advice I give folks planning a wedding is- don't let all the garnishes distract you from the meat and potatoes, cause that's what you're ordering the meal for anyway. Or something like that. ^_^

And thank you, orange peppers are lovely too! ^_^

I am indeed moving, and I am happy about it. This place needed to go. I'm just not happy about the timing and added stress since I just moved back to Kansas, too. I thank you for the well wishes ^-^ it is good, just the usual stresses involved.

Peregrine, maybe you should send the bathroom contractor to my home next. My bathroom has pink tile, paint peeling off the ceiling, and the ugliest sink known to man...  I feel like I should fix it "any day now" but I am too busy with other more important things.

back to the good news:
I feel that my writing has improved from my posts on this site, also my drawing ability has improved (I no longer need to use a grid or crosshairs to copy something).  And my mom just emailed me to tell me that my sister is pregnant.  (The same sister whose wedding I wrote about in the Writing challenges thread)  So it seems I will have another nephew or a niece.

Here is good news for those who may remember.

Surge, the delightful soda of my childhood, has returned. I can only get it on Amazon, but I get everything on Amazon. I'm waiting for it to be back in stock now, but the point is--IT IS BACK!

I saw this and immediately looked it up! SUCH good news!!! EEeeeeeeee! As well as all this other good news! So glad that it was thought to create this thread!

Sooo I may just be using this as a public service announcement for why I am so slow in my replies lately (but let's be real, I'm just slow in general). BUT I AM FINALLY EMPLOYED! With a real job that is! Downside is that I will be moving 8 hours away but, hey, I can deal. Charlotte, NC I'm comin' for you!!!

All the congratulations, Pach! North Carolina is actually my destination in two years, if I can get accepted at the University of Chapel Hill. You'll have to tell me all about NC in general for preparation!

I ordered the Surge, too. I await its delivery.

Good news: Adjunct teaching looks to be in my future for the spring. It isn't the best pay, but it will look great on my Curiculum Vitae. I have a supportive teacher who is willing to do a summer class with me for the credits I need, too, so that I don't overwhelm myself in the spring.

Best part though was hearing during the phone interview, "I just wanted to make sure you could hold a conversation. You have the job if you want it."

Well, it's always good to know someone brainy like Krystal can string a sentence together -- who would have thought....

I'll delude myself that my absence this last week has been noticed.  I seriously hit a wall.  Exhaustion and anemia apparently.  I've actually lost 15 pounds since May.

This is the least I've weighed in 5 years.  Another 3 pounds and I'd likely need new clothes....hum...

To the end of stress eating and the beginning of stress shrinking!

(and yes, hopefully can sit in front of a computer for recreation starting Friday.  that too is celebration.  just need another day or so to get my head back together) -- unless of course that's what weighed 15 pounds, in which case it will be lost permanently...

Congratulations, Beau! Now take good care of yourself, please, your absence was noticed. But congratulations on all your work!

And yeah >.> most people are under the impression that we brainy people are socially inept, apparently. Who knew?

Well, I'm sorry for the cause of the weight loss, but... yay for weight loss?

And no delusion necessary, you were missed. =]

Good news on the home front here, our contractor comes this week!

I was also shared a bounteous amount of garden grown produce and Cookie Bread has arrived in my house because of it. Ooooh... and it's almost pie season! I'm so excited for Pecan Pie as often as my sugar addled body can handle it!

Cookie Bread? What is Cookie Bread and how do I get some?

I love pecan pie! But pecans are crazy expensive where I live.

Beau, the weight loss sounds like a good thing? I don't know, when you couple it with anemia I start to worry.

Good news- I made it home from a month of visiting family and am now snuggly in my chair with my computer again.

It's...
OCTOBER!!!!!!!!!

WAHOOO!!! Bring on the crisp air, the scattered showers, the crunchy leaves, the spooky-ness, decorations and costumes!!!

Also Ara- Cookie Bread is Zucchini bread with nuts and chocolate chips in it. We grew a lot of our own food as a kid and I grew up with my mom calling it Cookie Bread so we'd eat it and not freak out it was really vegetable bread, even though the vegetable to other ingredient ratio is really not that big. Anywho.  I can share the recipe if you'd like, it is delicious, you wouldn't even know there was a vegetable in it!

I would love your bread recipe, Pere! It sounds like a great holiday recipe!

Ara, as soon as I find the recipe I'll post it... it grew two Two Year Old legs and walked off the counter (Meaning I had a helper while I made it last and now I can't find it)

Also... Krystal, since you are a fan of Surge, and I just unpacked a box with all of my old CD's in it and I happen to own the "official" SURGE soundtrack/CD thing.... I give you the play list.

Learning to Knit is fun to do!

(Arm Knit for the most part and I know this, along with other random tidbits I've loosed about the place, makes me sound like and old cat lady, but I'm not.)

10 1/2 scarfs done, which means much of my Christmas give list is checked off. ^_^

I'm a shabby knitter, mostly because I don't pay enough attention and perhaps influenced by having too many other hobbies. When did you start learning? And congrats on the success!

I watched a YouTube video a week ago, did my first arm knitting on Sunday and got hooked. =] I did my first needle (chopstick) scarf on Tuesday. Everything's turned out pretty well so far. I caved and went and bought actual needles to use from now on.

Also!!!

COOKIE BREAD (Zucchini Bread)
*3 Eggs
*1 Cup Oil
*3 tsp Vanilla
*2 1/2 Cup Sugar
*3 Cup Flour
*1 tsp Salt
*1 tsp Baking Soda
*1/2 tsp Baking Powder
*1 tsp Cinnamon
*2 Cups pealed and grated Zucchini
*1 Cup Chopped Walnuts (optional)
*1 Cup Chocolate Chips (or more to taste optional)

Mix Eggs, oil, vanilla and sugar. Combine dry ingredients (sift for a smoother texture), slowly add to wet ingredients. Stir in Zucchini, Nuts and Chocolate last until combined. Divide into 2 loaf pans. Bake at 325 F for 60-70 minutes until toothpick comes out clean.

Spam of good news!
Baby blanket for my nephew is like 1/3 completed!! Omg this thing is taking me forever to crochet but it looks cool.
We found someone to buy our washer and dryer.
We found someone else to take the coffee table!
All moved out except for some last minute cleaning.

Phew!! It's been a busy month <3 I feel almost wretched for being so quiet here but I've been nearly swamped by everything this month. I'm just glad I survived.

   1. I LOVE knitting, and my shirt that I finished in september  became way too big, so we washed it and it shrunk so much! BUT it still fits me, and the plus side is that it's so soft. It's almost felted and the alpacka yarn is soooo soft.  I normally can't wear knitted shirts without a long sleeved t-shirt under it. But with this one I can. I LOVE IT!
Will provide picture later! :)

   2. Arranged a conference for work and now it's over and the day went just as planned and nothing messed up. I'm so happy!

I like both knitted shirts and well planned days that stay planned all the way through!

My good news is that I finally finished the first draft of Bone Balustrade, which I hope will carve out my own niche in the vampire literary fiction world! I'm 50 out of 140 pages through my first read-through edit! Please cross your fingers form my continued dedication, especially now that my computer died.

Also, I ordered a denim jacket, black but washed to gray. It looks delicious and I plan to wear it indoors as a shirt with a t-shirt underneath. I always plan to live inside certain garments when I buy them, let's see if I can do it this time instead of buying new things all the time. Nothing looks better than well worn, but nothing's more fun than newly bought. With grace, it might arrive before I go away for a two day course and I can wear it there.

So I've commiserated to a few people lately that when my daughter shows me her "pictures" I have no idea what they are/mean, and how I look forward to the day when she can sign or speak and we can understand each other. Well, today I was at my desk reading an article about stuttering and she came and crawled on my lap and picked up the pen and notepad I leave lying around for her to draw/scribble with. I wasn't paying attention much as she flipped through to a new page, but when I finished the article I looked down and there, all over the note page were PEOPLE! Not just random scribbles, but heads, with necks and little bodies and eyes and mouths! I even broke a promise and woke my husband up up to show him!(He works nights and sleeps days and has been super helpful getting the house ready for company) She was all smiles and grins pointing at her picture and for once, I knew EXACTLY what she was showing me!

That's awesome Light! Congratulations!!

Oh the days of keeping up grades. I had to do it to keep a scholarship, but I was also just in a university BS level education so not really comparable. Keep your chin up! You can DO IT!

And I'm not sure if this is more of a "Sunshine" news or "Hug" news but after finishing an unsuccessful 6 month trial with hearing aids, and seeing 4 doctors in 2 days, my daughters file is headed to the cochlear implant review board and she could get her surgery as early as April. It feels exciting but also- freak out and hide in the closet and try not to pull my hair out with worry-feeling.

I'm still hoping we're making the right decision, cause when I think about all of it I feel panicked and weepy. So maybe this is really partly cloudy? Dunno.

Aw Pere that sounds like good news to me! And above when you updated before. I'm not really sure how I would feel about it either, but *Hug* anyways because I feel for your family and have read any time you post an update! I may have said this a million times but I have three very good friends currently in grad school for communicative disorders, so I feel somewhat related to your news, lol

I'm really jealous of what they are learning, it seems so interesting. When they are studying and I'm around I'll flip through the books and stuff they'll have out and it's fascinating to me to see everything they have to know about the ear and the brain, etc.

Keep us updated, of course. And continue to be strong for your daughter. She is lucky to have you for a mom! ^^

I'm glad to hear your daughter might get a cochlear implant! Technology, huh? Hope everything goes well and it doesn't give you too many bold spots or white hairs! Do keep us posted!

Spreading the Sunshine:

I started a new placement straight after Christmas in a place that's only a half hour walk from where I live and is pretty easy going. Nice and relaxed.
So I've been walking to 'work' and back when I'm on shift and last week was totally crazy in a good way.
I caught the 'new year, new you' bug and have made sure to exercise every day since Monday (which I have never made an effort to do before) and I have taken to eating as healthy as I can manage (not an easy task for a student nurse. I've been keeping a food and placement diary, have taken up a dance class, and have cut my soda intake down as well as eating way more fruit and cutting down on junk food.
I'm feeling pretty positive about it all. Just gotta keep motivated.

:)

Officially done with fire claims training. Basically, not only can you yell at me over your vehicle, you can yell at me over your house as well.

Fortunately, I don't mind. I found that some people are not at all opposed to the Darth Vader theme being hummed into their ear.

Wahoo! Wahoo! We got our preauthorization letter for my daughters surgery!

It covers the surgery (which costs more than my house! eek!), but also 5 follow up programming sessions for her implants as well as the implants themselves!!

I just had to share that a least one worry has been lifted and now I can breath a little easier financially. Still have worry over the actual surgery itself, but at least these ducks have themselves in a row.

:seaturtle: :seaturtle: :seaturtle: :seaturtle:

(There is a great lack of ducks in the e-mots, luckily there are the cute little turtles that work just as well ^_^)

So I know I've been woefully neglectful this past month and a half-ish of... well, every thread I'm in and know I'm up to post in most of them, so for that I am sorry and promise to work on posts this weekend but...

My Daughter had a successful implant surgery this past Thursday! So all of my time was eaten up with pre-op stuff and house rearranging so we could get her in a bigger bed to be with her at nights post surgery. I was so nervous for her surgery(ended up being just under 6 hours) and so stressed that my brain wouldn't function to put proper thoughts together or be creative.

She is doing AMAZING and is almost back to her usual self besides extra fatigue and some pain we are managing fairly well. Now we just have to wait just over 2 weeks for her incisions to heal, then her implants will be turned on and we'll have a bionic girl running around our house relearning how to hear and speak!

It's going to be a major adjustment, and tough for awhile, but the part that was making me sick to my stomach has passed and I think my brain fog has cleared a bit. Thanks all for the support along the way- it's been a journey I never expected and we're still traveling it for sure, but I certainly feel like we've come to a turning point. ^_^

Ugh, guys, I'm such a slacker on the writing front lately. It's been almost another month and still I haven't made/had the time to write- it doesn't help that my laptop met with a sudden and horrible smashing death, so I have nothing to write with during all the travel we're doing every week for appointments and I'm hanging on by my fingernails when we're at home with the trusty Desktop PC. *sigh*

But, as to not be a downer in a thread I've always meant to be an upper, I present the ACTIVATION VIDEO
 (http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o34/orangeinaworldofgray/th_AmeliaActivation1email.mp4) (http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o34/orangeinaworldofgray/AmeliaActivation1email.mp4)

She had just caught a cold two days before this, and had fallen asleep in the waiting room, so initially she was pissed when we tried to connect her and wake her up. The video starts after she settled down and decided to try and fall back asleep on the little table. I cut out a fair amount, about 5 minutes, of turn on-check for a response-turn off-turn it up louder, etc until her reaction. It's still pretty amazing. We've had a couple of "mapping" sessions, as they are called, since, and have another one in about a week, but they are pretty sure she's pretty close to the levels they want her at for awhile.

She keeps her implant processors on almost all the time, and even tries to sleep with them on, so we have to be sneaky and take them off carefully after she's asleep. It is such a relief to know she is getting exposure to sound and not only that, but WANTING it, as we'd heard/read some horror stories about kids hating it all and hiding these highly expensive and easily lost/magneted to almost anything- machines. So far, we've been good on that front and only misplaced one or the other of them three times in the last few weeks.

Anyway, I really am going to put forth an effort to write, I have all these ideas still swirling in my head and I hope I haven't lost everyone in the threads I'm in, if I have, I sincerely apologize and  I may just have to write the blurbs floating around anyway, so they'll stop nagging me.

Okay, I know I keep saying I'm back and then dropping off the face of the net for weeks on end, but I seriously am back around and able to check this lovely slice of the interwebs regularly again. We have a laptop on loan from my folks for when we travel, and I have a new and shiny PC for at home use so yay!

Also, the little is doing great! After a month and a half of weekly visits to the Doc that lives 3 hours away, we are seeing some really great progress and responses. They turned up the sensitivity to softer sounds, so now she is turning when we call her name or make sounds, she is aware of loud trucks and sounds when we are outside and has started 4 day a week school- speech therapy, immersion therapy, recognition therapy, etc.

So despite some rough travel and some rocky times these last months, things are finally settling into a new and fantastic normal. Thanks all for you understanding and all around awesomeness!

Pere, thanks for always sharing all your progress. I'm always happy to see how you work through your struggles.

So I'm finally gonna post here for once, instead of the other thread xD

My dad adopted a Great Pyrenees today.

We both know that in reality, this is my dog. I’m not claiming it as my dog because in my delusional ideal world, my dog would be a large, indoor dog who would sleep with me, not a large, outdoor dog, which is what this one is. We’re training it in Latin, because this is how I roll.

What I’m really posting here about is to say that I’ve finally accepted that it is okay to stop doing something that makes you unhappy, and to find what it is that makes you happy. You won’t see anymore posts from me in the “Need a Hug” thread regarding school, because this is my last semester as a Religious Studies grad. There’s a long story to that, and about two years of agonizing over the decision.

But I feel happy in a way that I haven’t felt for a while, because I feel free to get out into the real world, start making money, and start having a life that I don’t bring back home with me—in other words, I can actually start considering having a pet like a dog, to consider having a place to live because I won’t be worried about moving, and to consider…well, living.

I even started an exercise regime that I’ve kept up for 4 weeks this coming Tuesday, which is a record for me (I know, that’s sad, whatever).

TL;DR: I quit grad school, got a dog, and I’m finally living.

Congratulations, Krys! What did you name the dog? Oh, I do so love big dogs. So is it outside all the time?

Ara: The name of the dog is Alice, also called "Allie". She is outdoors all the time, this may change in the summer and really cold winters, but yes. And she survived her first night!

I shall continue my updates to you, Verse!

So excited for your doggie adventures Krys! Allie is a really sweet name! Great Pyranese get quite gigantic don't they? I had a college friend that called his Ghost.

I'm currently in the process of interviewing for a new job. It's a marketing manager for a chain of preschools and daycares back home near my family. I'm glad to finally have some prospects from a job in my field of study. I am hoping to move again soon. Charlotte is beautiful and it's been a lot of fun here, but it's also exhausting traveling when you're as close-knit with your family as I am. The process has been long, wish me luck everyone!

Best of luck, Paches! The Pyrenees is huge already, haha. I'm glad you've found something in your area, and I'll keep my fingers crossed that it all works out for you!

You go lady! I think it's awesome that you are finding your bliss.

I know it's cliche but I do honestly believe that some of the best things in life can come from taking that leap into your fear. I can't for the life of me remember where I read/watched/heard it, but there was a story about someone who was scared to step off the ledge saying, "I can't jump, I'll fall," and the person counseling them said something along the lines of, "Then I hope you sprout wings." Or something like that, so much better in my muddy memory... but~!

I seriously believe you are a rockstar and this is just the first step on a grand adventure into greatness!

And Pach! That's awesome, I'm close with my family too, so I hope all goes well for you and you can end the long journeying to see them and get the positions!

Also, I approve of all the new dogness, my family has finally convinced me that our need is great for a creature around here. We're thinking more German Shepard, or something around that size, possibly smaller, and some chickens. And since at this juncture in my life, we can't really feasibly have more kids, I'm hoping a fur child can help fill the growing ache for a new little to be added to our family.

My girls are trying to convince me of a cat and some chickens along with a dog, but we'll have to take it one step at a time.

SOOOOoooooo, Who wants to play a game of good news/bad news? Anybody?...... ANYbody?

Okay, I'll go.

Good news, because of the little ones surgeries and follow up appointments, we've reached BOTH deductibles on the two insurance coverages we get from the Hubs two different jobs, and I'll only have to pay my individual deductible.

Bad News- Looks like I've possibly got a knee replacement in my future. >.< The MRI revealed, and I quote my practitioner, "a really messed up situation".

The Conversation went like this after that:
Nurse: So, he'd like to refer you to an orthopedic surgeon, there is so-and-so or other-so-and-so, who would you like?
Me: Well, I've never heard of either of them, so is there one you'd recommend over the other, or works well with your office?
Nurse: I'll go ahead and send a referral over to other-so-and-so, they should call you in the next day, if not here is there number. Call them.
Me:Okay(sounds like nurse is getting ready to hang up) So should I be going and doing the PT the Doctor ordered or..
Nurse: No! I wouldn't do anything until Dr. other-so-and-so says to
Me:Okay... so should what's the situation exactly- should I be being careful, limiting my activity, or are there certain things I can do to help?
Nurse:Basically, the cartilage is slowly tearing, so every time you move or put weight on it, you're tearing it just a little bit more. So yes, I'd definitely be as careful as possible.
Me: Should I be taking meds for the pain like I was told before?
Nurse: If it was me, and you can handle pain, for the sake of your knee, I wouldn't. Alright, well, we're going to send that referral over. Again, if they don't call you- you call them.

I had more questions, but she seemed like she was in a hurry to hang up and promptly did so after I said, something to the affect of "Alright, I'll be sure to call if I don't hear from them."

Sooooo- Basically I'm walking around with a ticking time bomb for a body part, YAY!

*face palm*

((It's just possible this should have been posted in the "I need a Hug" thread.))

Ah! This should definitely have been in "I need a hug"! Tearing cartilage!? Ah! So are you pretty much laying stiffly in bed afraid to move?

Haha, wouldn't that be nice!

Hubs out of town for work and two active little girls, keep me moving whether it's good for me or not unfortunately. I'm wearing a brace, trying to stay off of it when I can and praying for a miracle that nothing gets worse while we're away at a wedding this weekend.

I am trying to see the positive in a cruddy situation. Like the insurance stuff, and the fact that I'm not crazy or just a wimp about knee pain when I refused to "push through it" during work-outs and stopped, so I might have saved myself some damage.

Some of you know of my agonies and struggles on the job front.

I found a job that was supposed to be full-time as a barista, but wasn't. So I've been searching again. Today, I went in to an interview and killed it. The job was offered on the spot, full time, customer service rep. I have an interview tomorrow for a similar position that will pay a little more, so I asked for a bit of time to consider.

Either way, I get to leave this miserable excuse for a cafe, so I'm satisfied.

And RenFest is soon!

“That’s not what’s supposed to happen when you quit a job, Krystal.”

People haven’t posted here in a while, so I thought I would since I have a slew of good news.

1.   Quit my job, last day was yesterday. Got a call from the woman who had originally been running the project this morning, and she offered me a job on her team of 3. It’s a promotion, higher pay, no regular overtime (I was putting in on average 5-6 hours every week with other job), full benefits. Me, a lowly temp before—not sure what I did to impress her to get this offer, but I’m feeling pretty smug. This is how smug:

2.   Naka-Kon, the anime convention, is this weekend. Vergil costume is already finished and I am ready.
3.   My new go-to for Cosplay Costumes is hyped to help me with General Hux and Kylo Ren—and Kylo Ren’s lightsaber is soon to be acquired, once the job is solidified (I have the money for it in savings).
4.   Next week is birthday!
5.   Got my nails done for the first time in a couple of years. They look gorgeous. They’re designed to go with Vergil’s coat (see: Nails Pic (http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/ah303/MasterLuce/IMG_03181_zpsqiwh1i2r.jpg) )
6. Finally growing hair out again. I feel I've got a handle on it now.

Grats, Krystal! For all of them across the board, but especially for the promotion - hard work pays off, an extra 5-6 hours a week is rough. Nice choice of song too.

To contribute, I'm getting married in April. Moving into my new apartment in ten days. And most importantly, I captured all 151 pokemon on the original red version.

Bit late on the Pokemon thing ~_^

But congratulations on the marriage! I hope the day is wonderful for the both of you, and I'm glad for the good news from ya! I also hope the new apartment works out. How exciting for ya, two major events so soon!
